CB 6 speakers make noise about stadium

A whopping 63 speakers signed up to take the mic at Community Board 6’s meeting last Wednesday, mostly to weigh in on the future of concerts at Forest Hills Stadium.
The packed hearing came on the heels of a March 19 letter from Inspector William Gallagher of the NYPD’s Legal Bureau stating that the agency could not grant the necessary permits to hold events at the venue. The Forest Hills Gardens Corp., which owns the surrounding private streets, has denied the city access to them, meaning the NYPD cannot close them for crowd control.
The meeting was held before Gallagher wrote a letter dated April 14 granting the venue a conditional permit to hold its first show of the year on May 31 [see separate story in some editions or at qchron.com].
Not everyone who signed up to testify was in attendance, but the public forum was still crowded, with the majority of speakers in favor of concerts and several others delivering impassioned speeches against them.
